Porthleven Clocktower placemat

This  Porthleven Clocktower placemat captures this west Cornish harbour scene in all its dramatic glory.

Porthleven’s Bickford-Smith Scientific & Literary Institute with its distinctive Clock Tower dominates the east side of the harbour. Standing at 70 feet high this structure often bears the full force of the wildest winter storms.

The building was originally a gift to Porthleven from Mr William Bickford-Smith, a successful businessman and former Member of Parliament for the old Truro-Helston Division. It opened in December 1884 and is today owned and maintained by Porthleven Town Council.

In recent years Porthleven has hosted an annual food festival and has quickly established itself as a favourite culinary destination.
