Description
Dawlish is a popular seaside resort on the south Devon coast. Situated between Exmouth and Teignmouth it is perhaps now best known for its seafront railway. Built in the 1840s and engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the tracks were severely damaged in the extreme storms of February 2014.
Winds of over 80mph whipped the sea into a frenzy wild enough to breach the seawall and leave the tracks dangling precariousley over the wild waves. It took two months and £35 million to repair the stretch and return the promenade to its former glory.
Thankfully these events are rare and Dawlish is usually home to tranquil seas making it an ideal location for families and watersports enthusiasts to enjoy.
